Rita - A little about me

I have been a forever sewer, learning to hem dishtowels from feed sacks on a tredle sewing maching at about age 6.  I made most of the clothing for my daughter and myself for many years and then I retired and discovered I much preferred to make flat things.  I retired from teaching after 36 years, teaching Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Science.  I still enjoy the revelation of not having to do lesson plans or grading papers.  I have only recently jumped into the art quilt world, having just completed a series of four 40x40 panels of the Four Seasons in the style of Confetti Naturescapes. The panels are based on a photo of the forested backyard of dear friends near Lexington Kentucky. I am excited to be a part of this distinguished group from which I know I will learn much more than I will ever contribute.

  1. Hi Rita. Can you post a photo of the Four Seasons? So glad you are a part of this group. Didn't you teach Dear Jane's? Am off to a Janiac lecture at the New England Quilt Museum. Brenda Papandakis who brought Jane to our attention will be speaking.

  2. Linda, if Rita doesn't want to post a picture of her Four Seasons quilt, I can, since I took a photo of this blue ribbon winning quilt at our Waco Quilt Show. She may be too modest to post it herself. If she doesn't, and will permit me, I have a nice photo of her in front of that gorgeous quilt!

  3. Rita was so modest in her biography! She's not been quilting long but all of you would be stunned and amazed at the number of quilts she's completed in her short life as a quilter! I've taken a class from her, too, and she is a wonderful teacher.

  4. Alice has told me all about your skills, Rita, and described your Four Seasons in detail to me. I am looking forward to getting to know you better as we move through this wonderful adventure!
