My Surprise quilt is designed from thoughts of Jack in the Boxes, so the surprise is in the fold-out "box" and all the other boxes lead up to it.  The red/gold boxes are painted bondaweb (wunder under? maybe), the fold-out is painted lutrador for stiffness in the same colours and the quilting is with a Madeira metallic.

  1. Jane, that is a very beautiful quilt. I love the Jack in the boxes...the pillows of gold and then the surprises. I bought some Lutrador but have not used. I have metallic thread but have not used (do I need special needles. The boxes look so soft, but you say they are stiff.
Love the looks and the quilting.

  2. This is fun and a great interpretation of the inspiration. I too have un-used lutrador - maybe something to consider using!

  3. I'll join the party and say that I, too, have un-used Lutrador! (Kathy of our group urged me to buy some and play with it.) This is a lovely quilt, and Jack in the Boxes fit the theme so beautifully. I played around with the idea of boxes myself, only they were going to be gift boxes; that was my fall-back, in case my #1 quilt didn't work out! But yours is so beautiful and so clever, both. You two members from across the Atlantic are such a wonderful addition to our group!

  4. I love the look of the gold boxes leading up to the surprise!! Am I the only one who doesn't know what Lutrador is?

  5. What a fun quilt, Jane. Jack-in-the-boxes is such a clever idea. I don't know what Lutrador is, either, but I love the way it unfolds. I'll have to google Lutrador! Thanks for introducing me/us to something new.

  6. Jane, I love how the boxes start orangy in the lower left and lead the eye to the big surprise at the top! I have lutrador but haven't used it yet. I'm inspired by your quilt!
