Patti's Surprise Quilt

Patti's Surprise Quilt

My quilt is a little random, and I am calling it Retirement - My life, it feels, has become unzipped. Feel like I have had a big adjustment to working for the past 20 years with its schedules and regularity. My meandering reflects that fact, and I decided to border the quilt with zippers. I wanted to try some of the thread painting with the twisty ribbons. Enjoyed the process but I will use more pleasant colors next time.

  1. Patti, I for one think your colors are VERY pleasing! You did an outstanding job with the thread painting; your ribbons are lovely. And the use of the zippers, so totally appropriate for the inspiration behind your Surprise quilt--your feeling of coming "unzipped" in the new world of retirement. Good job!

  2. Patti, how clever! Love the zippers. I "retired" at the end of 2008 and I'm STILL trying to get use to it, but I do love the trying part!

  3. Oh boy! Many people can identify with that unzipped feeling. Your thread painting and the movements graphically describe! and those zippers...YES!

  5. I too like the colors and love the work on the quilt - it looks like it was a lot of fun in the creating. I actually DID adjust to retirement in a big way and wondered why I did not get more quilting done. Now I have had to work long days in DH's office for the last several weeks and can't wait to hire someone and get retired again!
