Canyon - Sue's Cousin

I always wanted to find a dinosaur skeleton. When the new word went out for "Canyon," what
else could I do?
So I went to a very nice canyon and did a dig and found a huge T-Rex I call Sue's Cousin. Sue is the biggest T-Rex skeleton found yet and she was found by a kid too! I'm a big kid!

I used a lot of strips of fabric to show soil layers and to give you that feel of age. Then "dug" some of the fabric away to reveal my find. I used an outline stitching to achieve this and then painted in the dino.

  3. What a hoot! I love this, Carol! Not only is there humor here, but true beauty as well. Your dinosaur is so well rendered, until I read your explanation, I thought that perhaps you'd made use of a handy batik print!. You are such a super addition to our group.

  4. Carol, So important to have fun with it! Just love the skeleton!!!! The piece works really well, and just love the skeleton, I know I said that already. But the body position and face and joyfulness in him or her are just perfect. Wow!!!!

  6. What a wild woman (compliment) you are and artist as well! Your soil layers are better than the real thing and I wish I had gone on the dig with you. Many more compliments are due!

  7. You said so much with such simplicity and subtle fabric choices. The print fabrics imply fossils which I thought was very clever. Your dino is "dynomite"!(a term frequently used by the '70's Good Times sitcom character JJ (Jimmy Walker). Truly a fun piece Carol

  8. I love this, I have long been a devoted fossil hunter. If you ever come to Texas we will take you to the mammoth dig here in Waco.

  10. Hi Carol ! What a great job you did with my challenge word ! I loved the fabrics you used, especially the strata layers that look so real. I also had thought you used a batik fab for "Sue's Cousin" ... how fantastic that your dino was painted !
