Friendship - Carol's Quilt

So after racking my brain and doing way too many things in between, I came up with this scenario for Friendahip.
Just a couple of gals having a relaxing time at the local French Bistro.
Really, I was stumped and it popped into my head and I liked it.

Hand dyed fabrics, purchased fabrics, from a drawing I did. TADA!

Lois requested more about the construction...............HHHMMMM, let me see.
When I make anything I have a picture in my head and maybe some photos to use for resources. I then cut out all the pieces and build it as I go adding here and there. Then I usually get mad at myself for not having any Misty Fuse on all those little pieces. I then proceed to remove them all one at a time and put some MF on them, then reassemble and iron the whole thing down then sew it together with appropriate thread.
(You did ask)  LOL!

  1. Carol, it is lovely! I wish you had told us a bit more about its construction, however. Perhaps you could add to this when you have more time? Meanwhile, we feast our eyes on this beautiful portrayal of friendship!

  2. What better place to meet a friend than a bistro in France! Lovely visual and your drawing is charming! Makes me want to go back for a croissant and some cafe au lait!

  3. Oh my! I wish things would just pop into my head and come out so beautifully as yours did! I spend way too much time, often agonizing, about ideas!! I love the softened effect you've achieved with your detailed depiction of this friendship scene. Lovely!

  4. Well, you and I had similar ideas! Love your drawings and the colors you used. Isn't it great to have a friend to sit down with at a French bistro? Lovely job!

  5. Ooh la la...I can almost hear the conversation now!
What a fun interpretation of the theme and I so love the contrast between the color pencil background and your use of fabric and stitching in the foreground.

  6. What precious memories I have of sharing a cup of coffee or a glass of wine with a friend or several friends. Friendship is all about sharing.
I love that your construction method is a lot like mine. I just start out doing and realize along the way, "oh, I should have..." Isn't it fun, though.

  8. Your quilt makes me think of a wonderful day in Paris. I think it is because it reminds me of the impressionistic paintings and the concept of actually having relaxed sidewalk cafe moments with friends - a priceless experience

  9. Your quilt is great ! It reminded me very much of some of the painterly effects we might see in a museum or perhaps as we wander around an outdoor art venue. And I can well imagine sitting down with a friend enjoying a relaxing cup of coffee while being able to enjoy the artwork of local artists. I giggled at your comment about having forgotten to Misty Fuse some of your pieces.... As I was constructing my quilt, I thumped the top of my head a I too had forgotten to MF some of my pieces and had to do a bit of "reconstructive surgery !" Thanks for sharing your insights .. your quilt is beautiful!

  10. This little quilt looks like a painting. But then I guess it is. We just use fabric instead of paint. It made me smile.

  11. The best times in life are relaxing over a glass of wine with a friend. This quilt conjures up that image so beautifully. The color and detail are expert.
