At last! Harmony?

Hi all
I'm very happy to post my little quilt - Harmony? at last, with sincere apologies for the delay. The fabric is tea-dyed calico (I think in the US you call it muslin) with lines of quilting in the form of the five line staves of music. It's bound with a lovely black cotton covered in white musical instruments. I'm pleased with its simplicity in design.

Linda's Harmony block process: a little child shall lead

As I reported earlier, Joe and I kept the grandchildren as their parents went to ready the new house in another state. My accuquilt cutter arrived about the same time, and I had no more cut out the pieces from a batik stash than the children started playing with the fabrics.
I preferred their design to mine; but the size, for some reason, did not fit within our 12 x 12 goal. So I incorporated their own house design, honored it, in the center of my quilt. Homes and houses were definitely on their minds! Quiet time with three youngsters is a harmonious time!

Linda’s Harmony Quilt -- Harmony on the Homefront, a double-sided 12 x 12

Three things happened at once: 1) My accuquilt cutter arrived, 2) Joe and I were babysitting the grandchildren while their parents moved their home to another state, and 3) I needed to think “Harmony.”

I was excited to try the cutting machine, so I put an inexpensive blended roll of batiks into the chopper to get numerous triangles and many squares of two sizes. In creating the quilt. I limited myself  to only what was available in this particular stash cutting.
Off and on, the children concentrated to make houses of squares and rectangles. They had “house” on the mind and organized a tabletop of multi-colored homes (small square and triangle on big square as in the center). Harmony, however imperfect,  prevailed in several directions. This two- sided quilt is an homage to that time, the youngsters’ design, and my new helper, the fabric cutting machine.

Ever Onward: Linda Hicks

Painters are moving into the quilting world and I am one of them.

I had never considered entering the art world, but wanted and trained to be a teacher of English and history. I write about my checkered career in "About Me" at my website. I post at least weekly to my blogl  Blogging is a great motivator!
There are exciting/challenging things happening around every corner in quilting and I want to be there. I find the two 12 x 12 groups I belong to
feed each other. Ever onward in harmony.I look forward to learning and being inspired by all of you.
