Judy S.Time: Beautiful Morning

How does a quilt of a hot air balloon at sun rise depict “Time”? When I was in the 4th grade my parents bought me a subscription of “World” magazine. It was a magazine that National Geographic created for kids in the 70’s. One time they had an article about the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

I have always been fascinated with hot air balloons, but the article really fueled my interest. When there are hot air balloons around I tend to follow them and watch them gracefully float on the air currents. One time I was in Albuquerque the weekend before the festival. I was able to watch some of them practice and enjoy the morning. I still hope there will be a time when I can ride up into the air at that magical time of day.

Bob and I took a ballon ride for our 40Th anniversary. Do it!!!! It was tranquil and idyllic!

Beautiful, beautiful! The front is wonderful, but I love seeing your back because I like your stitching so much. I'd like to join you sometime in a hot air balloon ride!

I've been to the Albuquerque Balloon Festival, Judy, and it was phenomenal. We rose at 5 AM to view a sea of balloons inflated and rising into the sky. Since then, I have always wanted to ride in one! Your colors are spectacular as is your stitching. Such a fabulous quilt!

Up! Up! and Away!! Be sure to tell us when you are able to fly off in a beautiful balloon. I know I would love to do that myself.
I particularly love the composition of the quilt. Also the colors are wonderful.

Great choice of fabrics. It's a happy quilt. I can just imagine that time stands still when you're riding in a balloon. Love the back!

What a beautiful quilt ! I can almost feel the air currents as the balloon rises up, up, and away ! Your interpretation of time was wonderful, and your composition was right on ..... Great job !

THE MATERIAL MAVENS

We are a group of art quilters who come from various parts of the United States, from the East coast and then south to Arkansas and Texas. We were inspired by the original Twelve by Twelve international art quilting group.

Beginning in September, 2011, we started posting our 12"x 12" art quilts, which were based on themes chosen in turn by our members. For Round One, we posted quilts every two months, always on the 15th of the designated months.

Round Two of The Material Mavens began in October, 2014. Some changes were made: quilts were posted every three months, and the quilts could be be either 12"x 12" or rectangular ones measuring 11" x 14", either horizontal or vertical in orientation.

Round Three of The Material Mavens began in July, 2018. Again, changes have been made. Now those members who wish to stay affiliated with the group are free to post quilts every time or every now and then. Two, our blog administrator collected suggested themes from the members who wanted to remain affiliated. These themes were then pulled at random from a "hat," and they were then assigned in order for the posting dates. Since we had 13 members who wanted to remain, we will be posting quilts every 3 months until 2021! This date is significant and appropriate, because 2021 will be the 10th year that our group has been in existence.
