After a few weeks of struggling with this theme, I finally
came up with an original idea!! I thought of other meanings for doodle and
remembered all the labradoodles, goldendoodles, schnoodles, yorkipoos,
and other designer dogs that we have met and encountered when walking our
golden and black lab. Designer dogs are so popular that a new hyrbrid
seems to be created every year. There even is a dalmadoodle, but sadly it is a
homely (in my opinion) creation! So I chose to depict a cuter? version of
this designer dog for our reveal.

Extremely clever and well executed, using so many different techniques...I love it, it makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteNedra, I truly did exercise great control of temptation! (Nedra put this up as a draft early, because of an upcoming trip, and then asked me to publish it today!)I never did peek early at your quilt. And how much FUN it is! I never would have come up with a "doodle" dog, which is odd, because one of my three "grand-dogs" is a Labradoodle! This quilt is fun and full of clever techniques, such as the way you gave him a curly fluff!
ReplyDeleteSo cool! I love the fluffy dog.
ReplyDeleteDalmadoodle - what a cleverly designed and executed quilt! Thanks for the explanation of all the steps in creating this very fun piece. I especially got a kick out of this because I am contemplating adopted a doodle dog!
ReplyDeleteSo clever! Love all the textures and the 3-d effects!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! I love the use of batting for the poodle fluff
ReplyDeleteFrom Rita: A Dalmadoodle? What a fun depiction of our challenge word. I did not know that we humans have tinkered so much with doggie genetics. What a wonderful idea to use the batting for the fluff. I would love to know what he is thinking…………..
ReplyDeleteRita, If you're interested, you'll find many other dalmation breeds here!!

ReplyDeleteOh my ! What a great interpretation of our challenge word ! I've heard of a few of the "Doodle" dogs, and from this point on, will always associate them with your great quilt ! Thanks for your detailed explanation of all the techniques you used and for enlightening me (truly a lover of dogs !) about the various Doodle breeds !
ReplyDeleteLove the designer dog. As I said, it was the first thought I had for this theme, but I didn't have time to develop it. The fire hydrant, the fire dog, the poodle fluff. Who would want to cross a dalmatian and a poodle?
ReplyDeleteThat is better left to quilters I believe. Great Fun!
As a cat person this would never have entered my mind. I had to look at the pictures on the web site and I do think your dalmadoodle is much cuter. I love the ingenious execution too.
ReplyDeletegood interpretation of "doodle". Who would have thought there would be a dalmadoole!!!
