This
was the perfect theme for my return!
It
was at least six years ago that I decided I should downsize and thought I
would like a Cape-style house. I finally found "the one" in
the spring of 2015 and was able to purchase it last summer. After six
months of renovations, I moved in just before Christmas; however it took an
additional 4 months of purging/donating/recycling and packing to be
completely out of my former home.
Going
from a large house, in which I lived in for 40 years, with 12' ceilings and a
two-floor, cat free dedicated studio, to a small house has been a challenge.
I thought I would be able to sew in the living room, but sharing that
space with four very interested cats has proved impossible.
Plan
B is to set up my sewing room in a second floor bedroom. My design wall
will remain in the living room on the first floor and my fabric dyeing can be
done in the basement. I love the new house and eventually it will
become "creatively functional," but meanwhile I am feeling very
confined by my lack of space which is what I am hoping this quilt conveys.

My assistant...
clearly she didn't like the placement of the C!
Clever and striking! Welcome back! I've really missed you. Love the quilt and the additional photos with the cats!
ReplyDeleteI love it! The simplicity of it is just perfect! I like how you did closer quilting inside the letters and left most of the larger areas empty of quilting. This is a very clever design!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME ! You said it all in just one word ! ! ! And as always, your graphic design - simple, clean, stark, straightforward - is perfect !
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're back - we've missed you, and I've really missed your always intriguing, amazing, awesome work !
What a wonderful quilt. Having shared my studio space with Mr Moss this past year in Nantucket- he threw up on a quilt that was partially quilted. I was able to save it but didnt know if I could.
ReplyDeleteI laughed out loud when I read that, surely Mr Moss wouldn't do that!!! Been there!!! Just this week Thomas got locked in the studio and I had to throw away a tote bag he peed on. 😂
DeleteAndrea, I can just imagine your downsizing predicament with 4 cats! But your quilt SPACE shows calm serenity in its spacing of the letters and spareness of the negative space. Must have been the calm serenity of your "supervisor " that inspired you. As always, thanks for the laughs.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are back! I like the placement of the letters! The quilt also has great use of negative space. I can't imagine downsizing. I know how helpful 1 cat can be when sewing - mine thinks plinking pins out of the pin cushion with her teeth is great fun so I can never have pins in a space that did not include a door.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is inspired and simply lovely. The quilting is wonderful. When I am standing in front of a quilt and am not knowing what to do, maybe I can somehow channel your inspiration. The photos of your helper are so fun.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear about your new home...we should have shared notes...always a good quilt from you!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable modern quilt! Love it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!!
