Barbara's Canyon Quilt--In The Cravasses

Canyon made me think of the Smother's Brothers routine of the Pumas in the Cravis.  http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=kaqTuLQThsY&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DkaqTuLQThsY

I searched my stash to find Puma fabrics and I found one African fabric that worked.  I had a wolf fabric with piercing eyes also and cut those into strips with others that reminded me of mountainous rocks.  I printed the mountain fabrics with my hand cut stamps to create more texture.  The quilting is large hand running stitch in some of the strips and outlining a real Puma paw print.  To make the paw stand out, I used Fabrico Pen in gray and brown around the stitching.  I am very pleased with the results.  Alice, I should have taken your help with posting this before my total right knee replacement surgery!

  1. Barbara! I love this. Love it so much. It is so original and creative and those eyes peering out, the hand stitching, etc. etc. YES, you should have taken me up on my offer. Hope the surgery went well! Know so many who've endured this surgery and the very difficult rehab following it.

    1. Oh, I just went to your Smothers Brothers link! Hilarious! Watching it made me so nostalgic. To link an old comedy routine to one of our MM quilts--my mind is blown!

  2. Hi Barbara ! What a stunning quilt ! Never would I have thought of something like this, and your description of how you came up with the idea, and how you actually made the quilt was terrific :-D I also remember the Smothers Brothers (are we all 'dating' ourselves ?) and laughed out loud when I watched the You Tube clip ! You did a great job - thanks for taking Canyon into a brand new direction !

  3. I too watched the video. I forgot how funny they were! Thanks for refreshing my memory. I am continually amazed at where we find our inspiration for these challenges - there is always a unique perspective. This is certainly one of those. Love the colors and textures and the Puma print accents it perfectly. You made me smile :)

  7. Barbara,
Wonderful use of fabric and value. The shadow around the paw was a great idea too.
I have really enjoyed viewing all of the MM 12x12 pieces. Thanks.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

  8. I love the hidden eyes I see, suddenly staring out at me! This is a delightful interpretation and I totally enjoyed seeing the Smothers Brothers skit. It brought back great memories - the only one I remember from my childhood is the one my sister and I enjoyed together "Mom loves you best!".
I hope recovery goes well - I have been putting off getting replacement parts for my knee
