He sees FISH

Yes, an odd name for something in the cell category, but my son works in a Pathology Lab and this is his view of the microscope in a dark area with a color florescence that can be changed depending on what you need to see/know.
He posted this pic on facebook one day after the "word" went out and I said that is a cool picture, and proceeded to make it.
I used cottons, fabric paints, inktense pencils and of course thread.

  1. This is stunning, Carol! A most clever and unique take on the theme. I do wish you'd go back in and enlarge the photo from small to medium, though, so have it show up better on our blog. Of course, we can "click to enlarge", but it would be nice to have it bigger on the post!

  4. There you go - and I asked him if he would like to have it about a week ago and he was delighted! He loved the finished product.

  5. This piece is so "you"...a very unique interpretation! I agree with Nedra that your fluorescent light is fabulous. So glad that your son appreciates and wants this quilt.
As Alice suggested, would you make it larger please?

  6. What a clever quilt, Carol! I agree that the flourescent light just sets it off perfectly, and that it will be a "treasured keepsake" for your son. Wonderful!

  7. What a fun perspective! I've always thought microscopes were so interesting, but to think that you could see something under it in the dark is way cool! Thanks for sharing that.

  8. I commend you for your effective rendition of a photo inspired piece. This is the most challenging approach for me and yet yours feels like I am in a darkened lab behind the microscope. Great concept.
