I knew that I didn’t want to try to replicate real cells. I would have to be more precise about how it looked and I wanted to just play with the cell theme. There was a piece of fabric in my stash that I could see cells in, but the colors were too harsh. I decided to play with some of my Jacquard Dye-na-flow. These dyes are already mixed up and are easy to use. The colors come out intense but soft.
I was torn on what to call my piece. As I was quilting it, I chuckled when I thought of it as my brain cells. I am involved with so many things and then there are the things I want to do, but don’t know how to squeeze them into my daily life.
As you can see there are some area’s that are crammed with lots of little cells and yet there is some open space that can be filled. I just hope I am taking time to relax in that open space once in awhile. One part I enjoyed seeing come to life is the funny bird with the long legs running out of the quilt. With this piece it is almost like looking at the clouds and seeing animals and shapes in them. The bird is really defined, but I can find sheep, funny creatures with antenna’s, hearts, flowers, and even a fried egg. Take some time and see what fun things you can find in my “Cell” quilt.
Judy, what fun to see your quilt now! (I confess that I saw the fabric only that Judy was thinking about using and I urged her to do so, it was so very beautiful). I love it when these quilts make me smile and chuckle, and yours did, especially when I got down to the little bird running out of the quilt. Okay, now I have to go back and AT LEAST find that fried egg! You are hilarious!
ReplyDeleteYep, I quickly found the fried egg!
DeleteWhat a happy quilt and fun use of Dye-na-flo. Love how you have highlighted the organic shapes with your quilting. For some reason this reminds me of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine movie!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I'm tripping when I look at this! I see the bird and the fried egg. I see two insects with antennae looking at each other, another bug with three antennae and a funny sun with a teapot above your longlegged bird!!??!! Well you asked!!! So much fun to examine closely and let your imagination take over. Thank you for this colorful view of your over worked brain cells. :) :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I saw all that, too, Nedra, but did you see the frog with glasses? Love the painting, Judy, and as always, the humor in your quilts. The colors are beautiful and the depiction of brain cells going in every direction is great. I feel that way frequently! A FUN quilt!
ReplyDeleteI think I found the frog with glasses :D
DeleteI saw a little person standing next to a wooly sheep in the lower right corner. :D What a fun quilt for sure.
ReplyDeleteNice, nice! Fun to see things in it too.
ReplyDeleteYou guys crack me up! Last night was our guild meeting and Rita, Alice and I brought our quilts to show. I had some finding fish, rabbits, and snails in mine.
ReplyDeleteWell, I finally have an excuse to indulge in those inks...either Jacquard's Dye na Flow or Lumiere's version. I like the fact that they are pretty but intense in color. Now to go a hunting!
ReplyDeleteJudy, I love your interpretation and your description - if I were to make an image of my "brain processes" I doubt we would find any recognizable images - just a lot of clutter! This is too much fun
ReplyDeleteJudy, you are a hoot! Love the little quilt!
ReplyDeleteI saw a lovely quilt at a quilt show that was done with this technique, you have inspired me to try it. Love your solution. Fun Fun Fun and that's what quilting is all about
