Judy S.- Spring Water and Flowers

The first thing that came to mind was a spring bringing fresh water to the surface. I chose the background fabric to give it a sunset feel and I wanted to put the spring in the woods, but I didn’t want to cover up the pretty fabric. Instead of worrying about the right perspective I just put in branches of flowers which of course mean spring has arrived.
I used organza for the water flowing down between the rocks.
This is a close up that shows the rocks on the left and the flowers not quilted. I thought you might like to see how different they look before quilting.
I used the zig-zag stitch to free-motion quilt the flowers.
Here is the back of the quilt. I used lavender thread so that it would show up, but wouldn't be harsh.

  1. Nice color usage. Branches over water brings thoughts of little frogs and turtles. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Judy, this quilt to me is a combination of an "impressionistic" work with touches of realism. The overall effect is striking. As usual, your quilting is wonderful. Thanks for the step by step photos!

  4. Beautiful colors Judy. I love the peacefulness of this quilt and the wonderful colors of the rocks. Your quilting, as usual, is beautiful. Who would think to do zig-zag machine quilting for the flowers. Love it!

  5. I love the soft colors you have chosen for this. The organza works wonderfully as the spring and the rocks look like smoothed jewels glistening in the water!! I have been meaning to let you know that I saw your 12 X 12 Texan boot which was on display in the Mancuso show in March here in Savannah!! It was great and I was so excited that I knew the artist!! Well done.

    1. That is neat that you got to see it. I haven't been keeping track of where they are. I need to check on that so that I can see them all together. Glad you liked it. I used some fabric that I had stamped and hated. I over dyed it and then it was perfect for the leather on the boot.

  10. Hi Judy! This is Alice, not Jane. We have just seen Jane's studio and are about to go eat lunch. She's been having problems commenting and I am trying to figure out WHY. See you soon!
