No greater love than to lay down ones life for a friend. Based on 1905 painting. I can't post any details right now. In ER w Mom. Possible broken rib from fall. Hand dyed fabric by Helene Davis of Paducah. Raw edge appliqué,Setacolor paint, netting overlay, straight line quilting. All to enhance the dreamlike atmosphere.
Gail, we understand why you can't write a detailed narrative about this striking quilt! Take care of your mom and don't worry about adding more. After all, the quilt itself "speaks louder than words." Welcome to the group!
ReplyDeleteI got to see this quilt in person, and it is fabulous. The photo is very good. As soon as I saw it, I said "No Greater Love" then, well, I sure can't top that! Welcome, Gail. What a wonderful friendship we share.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see this in person too as I'm intrigued by the quilting. I would not have thought to do it this way, but I like the ethereal effect it gives which is perfect for the topic. Very striking and dramatic piece!!
ReplyDeleteGail, this is a great expression of what true love is. How many of us would lay down our life for a friend. It's a goal for all of us to strive for. I'm thinking of you and hope that your mother is much better. Welcome to MM!
ReplyDeleteVery dramatic and touching. Great job and welcome to our group. I look forward to seeing your work in our next round.
ReplyDeleteHI Gail - Welcome to the Material Mavens ! Your quilt is striking! As they say, a picture says a thousand words, and in this case your quilt speaks profoundly. I'm especially intrigued with how you used straight line quilting to give the piece its ethereal quality. Hope your Mom has a speedy and full recovery from her fall !
ReplyDeleteA powerful work indeed.
ReplyDeleteYour choice of red as a background really adds drama - hope your Mom is not in too much pain and recovers well
ReplyDeleteGail, Welcome Welcome! It's always nice to have a new member, and especially one as talented as you are. The quilt is magnificent, bold in it's composition, yet subtle in it's final execution! Hope your mom is on the mend very soon! Thanks for sharing this lovely work with us all.
ReplyDeleteThe painting Crucifixion by Odilan Roden c 1905 has been in my sewing room for years. It clicked immediately when I heard the theme. Thanks for your kind words.
ReplyDeleteA very dramatic quilt. You truly achieved a dreamlike atmosphere with you use of color, techniques and quilting.
