Andrea's Fall Quilt

OOPS
( or Fall, Falling, Fallen! )

11"-ish x 14"
Hand-dyed and commercial cotton

Anytime I can use shoes in a quilt or art project I will.  Not really wanting to make the season of Fall my focus, I went with a tongue-in-cheek ( or dark, think Agatha Christie or Hitchcock! ) interpretation, where a pair of shoes could represent someone who has taken a fall!  Slipped on a wet leaf perhaps?  Or maybe the person is sitting and watching the fall leaves flutter in the wind?

  2. Andrea, I've chosen fallen as the title of your clever quilt. I recently had a fall - or really a slide - out of my desk chair which has wheels. So I immediately related to an unexpeted "fall" onto my behind. I noticed in the background you stitched two letters together - a S and an O. I so wish you had stitched SOS! That's what I did when I had that fall with no one at home!
I really like your quilt, especially the shoes! They are so perfect for your message - dainty but not so sturdy. I am now going to a balance class so that I can remember to push my rolling seat while holding onto it!!! Aging is lovely.

  3. Oh my Carolyn...I almost slid on to the floor from my sewing chair ( on wheels ) twice when working on this quilt!!! I do hope you did not hurt yourself. The background stitching spells out OOPS, but SOS would have worked just as well!
The shoes were ( hopefully ) intentionally "gender & age neutral"...as i feel anybody at anytime can find themselves on their butt!!!

  4. Andrea, I love your quilt! I had forgotten all about the reveal day but hadn't planned a quilt anyway. It just dawned on me today to check! LOVE this quilt so very much. As always, not only clever but beautifully executed!

  7. Thanks Nedra! I don't have any hi-tops like these, but still own a pair of purple hi-tops ( which unfortunately do not fit anymore, but can't bear to donate! )
