Andrea's Surprise Quilt: Need I Say More ?

silk-screened and fused

This quilt depicts a shared surprise experience that I had with MM Carolyn last August. MM Linda, Carolyn & I were to meet in Rockport, MA. where Carolyn, who lives in Texas, was staying with friends. Unfortunately, Linda was unable to join us. I suggested that we go to the quaint coastal city of Newburyport as Carolyn had not been there on previous trips to MA. We parked in a lot in the center of town where I have parked free for literally ( I hate
to say! ) decades. After walking around town, shopping and lunch we returned to the car to find a ticket prominently placed on the windshield! We then looked around the lot and saw that a "Please Pay Here" machine had been added. Whoops!

  1. Andrea, I smiled as soon as I saw your quilt! I remember well the incident that it depicts, since Carolyn and I are such old friends (and she told me about your visit), and since you and I have started up an email friendship. I love the humor and, of course, the skill and expertise that you brought to this quilt, as well as your ability to take an experience and turn it into a clever quilt. I am so excited today as I come in every few minutes to check the blog! We are, once again, off to a fantastic beginning of this Reveal Day. Thank you, too, for recruiting our latest member, Nedra, into our group; what a wonderful addition she is already making! PS I have just GOT to teach myself to silk screen, using the DVD you recommended!

  3. Simon must be your car? That was a perfect surprise moment for you and Carolyn. I've had a few of those myself. But how did you do this nifty 12 x 12. More details since I want to be as accomplished as you are. Well done in detail!

  4. Hi Linda, yes Simon is my car. When I "built" him online, it was a requirement to give a name or the site would not let me print out to take to the dealer! Anyway, I do have a few "process" photos that I will post in a few days.

  7. Love it Andrea!!! That was quite a surprise, wasn't it. I love this quilt and want to learn how to do silk screening. In spite of the "little ticket", we had fun in Newburyport, and I loved meeting you!
