Andrea's Element Quilt

Black & White With An Element of Silk

With this theme I came up with many "working" ideas very quickly ( which was comforting ), however I decided that I wanted/needed to make something intuitive, as I have a tendency to "over-think" my designs. I bought a Gel Printing Plate a few months ago and have been wanting to play with it, so I decided that this was my opportunity to give myself "permission" to explore.
To simplify, I only printed with white paint on black fabric and black paint on white fabric. My element would be a "pop" of color, which I thought the contrast of the silk would work.
This is the result.

  1. Andrea, how lovely! I love the black and white with the two pops of bright blue and (?) old gold, mustard--I'm not always good at color names. I love it that you are often exploring with new techniques and materials, such as the Gel Printing Plate.

    1. Hi Alice,
Purple and chartreuse, but do look blue and gold/mustard on the blog!

  2. Love the graphic simplicity of this!! Did you use rubber bands for the loopy texture?

  4. Hi Andrea,
Alice needs to calibrate the color on her machine. Yours piece shows chartreuse and purple on mine and boy do they pop. The piece is elemental and thought provoking. My gel plate productions were not that interesting...but it is fun to work with. Your simple friend.

  7. Thanks for telling us about the Sharpie marker as a tool. I was wondering how the lines came out so beautifully. I'll definitely try it on my Gelli plate next time. This simple but elegant piece is modernistic and sleek. I really like it.

You made such interesting and intriguing textures that I would love to see this up close. The strips of color really make the piece sing. There is a lot in this that makes it fun to look at!
