Karen's Flower- Poppies

I pulled this piece out of my class samples and re-worked it for "Flour/Flower".
I've always loved poppies though can't grow them for real!
The background is chenille, 6 layers of rayon and cotton, sliced and fluffed.
I made 2 different squares of chenille, cut an "X" through them and reattached.
The poppies are made with cotton petals and wool centers.
Double-sided with wool felt backing. and stitched onto the background using stem stitching to hold in place.
The edges are not stitched.
The poppy "bud" has a 3D center, the bottom petal is curved off the flower.
Working on this makes me want to try one more time to grow them!

  1. Great idea to have fabric poppies that can be enjoyed year 'round! Love your poppy designs and the background is fascinating. Must have been very satisfying to rework one of your class samples, with such stunning results.

  2. Love the colors in this!! The background is so cool!! Would not have thought to use chenille as a background!! It provides beautiful contrast to the flowers!!

  3. Oh what fun! Texture from the chenille background, felt, and stem stitching add to the interest in this quilt. Of course that gorgeous red stands out with the dark centers. Another one pulled from past work like Tricia's was. Beautiful!

    1. Oops. Forgot to add that this is Judy S commenting. Being anonymous when we use to not be is frustrating, but at least we can add our name.

  5. Your colors and the chenille are wonderful. The chenille creates so much texture. Wish I could grow poppies also.
