Andrea's Rock quilt

Pebble Beach
ROCKport, Ma.

12" x 12"
silk-screened and hand painted 100% cotton, commercial cotton

Pebble Beach has been a favorite of mine for years.  Not for the sand, but for the ( literally! ) millions of ocean-tumbled rounded rocks.  I have quite a collection of the rocks in various sizes and colors, which range from shades of white, grey, brown, orange and pink. The beach actually has a rather interesting history ( VintageRockport.com ), which I have silkscreened on some of my rocks for texture.  I had a number of ideas for this theme, but kept coming back to this beach that has fascinated me for so long.

The quilt was inspired by this photo that I took when doing my "research"!

Millions of rocks!

  4. I love the way you rendered the rocks. It so strongly evokes the parent image. I too like to pick up rocks.

  5. What a great interpretation of "Rock !" As always, your use of "simple graphic design" just captivates me ! And the mere mention of "Silk Screens" sends me to the moon and back :-D BTW ... The "Pebble Beach" I'm familiar with is in Calif (as in Pebble Beach Int'l Golf Tournament). Out of curiosity, what's the location of the Pebble Beach in your picture ????

  6. I love this Andrea, specially since I have been to Rockport's Pebble Beach! How clever to put part of the history on some of the rocks. I am going right now to look at the reference to the history of Pebble Beach. Thanks for reminding me of my fun time there with my nursing classmates!

    2. Oh, meant to add that my "collecting" days at the beach are over as the town has put up sign fining $500 for any removal of the rocks!
