c: internal calm: TRANQUILLITY.
Definition c lead me to water, which then gave me my color scheme. After dyeing a range of blue/turquoise fabrics that I was pleased with, I started silkscreening images that to me represent water and tranquil places that I have visited.
Construction was intuitive machine piecing and then quilted with gentle undulating stitches. A few purple organza waves were fused on after quilting, as I have recently "discovered" layering with the transparent fabric to be a visually satisfying technique.
Stunning Andrea! The colors are soothing and comforting, and I love the inclusion of the silk screened pieces: the definition of harmony, the house, the seashells and the calm, peaceful waves. A lovely reminder for me of my time on beautiful Cape Ann.
ReplyDeleteOh, Andrea! I agree with Carolyn: Stunning! Mavens who read this--it is essential to click on Andrea's quilt to enlarge it, in order to properly appreciate all the details--the silk screened images, the lovely undulating quilting lines--oh, so much here to study and to savor. You've used my very favorite colors, too. The whole experience of seeing your quilt is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSoothing and very harmonious!
ReplyDeleteWow, Andrea! I will love to return to look at that quilt enlarged again. You included so much that is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful piece, Andrea, with a fantastic explanation of your thought process!
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
Andrea, this is beautiful! I can see this as a big quilt that hangs on a wall and every time you needed a soothing sight you could just sit and swim off into that blue. How lovely.
ReplyDeleteLovely Andrea. Would love to see it in person. Now I know how busy you are!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I pulled up the site at work, to show Martha what you were up to. Clicked to enlarged the quilt, to see the screened images. She pointed out the depth noted, as you stood away from the computer screen. Loved it.Very soft and tranquil, Sue
ReplyDeleteBlue is my favourite colour & here it's just gorgeous. I love having a visual impact to start with & then having to look closer to be rewarded with more details. The text peeping through is also a wonderful touch.
