Petra - Harmony

I really don't know where the inspiration for this quilt came from. I thought about writing Harmony in different fonts or different languages and then I thought of night and day and the balance between them. I was thinking if there was anything that represented night and day and thought of the owl and cockerell. I had an image of a cockerell and made him up in purples, reds and yellows. I then made the owl and loved him but there was no harmony with Mr Cockerell, so I remade the cockerell to match. I really liked the sun and moon, the photo doesn't do justice to the fabric, it is so shiny and glittery, not something I would usually use or feel confident with but hey this for me is about growing as a quilter. Everything is attached using bondaweb with freemotion stitching, i've then attached some beads. Well done everyone, they're amazing,

  1. Petra, greetings! I love your rooster and sun and the owl and the moon! Clicking on your image, I see the amazing detail work of your applique. And you know, US time, it is still early afternoon. I know it's about 8 hours later there, but you are so totally meeting the deadline with many hours to spare! Your quilt is charming, and I am delighted to see it.

  2. A FUN quilt, Petra. I love the humor of harmony that you depicted between early morning and late evening symbolized by the sun and rooster, and the owl and moon. A clever design that made me smile!

  3. Thanks Carolyn and Alice, I enjoyed making them. I posted it before I dared to look at everyone else's. That way I couldn't back out. I was quite intimidated, you're all so talented. Kind Regards Petra - PS I'm looking forward to the next one now XX

  4. Goodness, Petra! I wish I could free motion like that and I think it is delightful that you chose two birds to such purpose. Who hoot would have thought of it! I like looking at the fabrics.

  5. Petra, what fun! I never thought of night and day as harmonious, but they certainly are. I love your fabric choices and quilting.
I know what you mean by being intimidated by the talent in this group, they are all amazing and so are you. I am excited that we will all grow in our knowledge and skill, as well as test new ways of doing things. Plus, we will have some grins and giggles along the way together.

  7. I love your two harmonious birds, Petra, they are real characters. I love your choice of colour for the background & the use of fabrics are perfect for your owl & rooster. Your free motion quilting is excellent & that was before we had our fmq workshop with Philippa!
